A contented man

At a Houston restaurant, I spot this car in the parking lot. It draws me in––so cool, so blue, so essentially American. This guy walks up, a waiter at the restaurant, coming out to retrieve something from the car––his car. I ask if I can photograph him; he’s quietly proud and agrees.

The whole interaction takes about three minutes. During that interval, time stops and reveals the elegance of living in the moment: in his work uniform, sitting in his car restoration project, glowing with the expression of satisfaction that he’s showing the world who he really is…
